Runathon Foundation launches ultra-marathon

Runathon Ghana Foundation, a sports-development Non-Governmental Organization, has launched the 2014 ultra-marathon race at Alisa Hotel, Accra on Wednesday.

The 50 km ultra-marathon dubbed “Fit for Life” is fixed for Saturday, November 29.
The race include 50km ultra-marathon race, 50km wheelchair ultra-marathon races and above, 50km 5-man road relay (at 10km intervals), and a mass 10km health walk.

The ultra-marathon race is expected to draw participation from competitive and recreational runners.

Eric Addae, President of Runathon Ghana Foundation, said his outfit was of the conviction that Ghana is capable of nurturing and producing world class long distance running talents within the medium term.

“The event is to develop long-distance running specialists, orient the Ghanaian public to healthy life style through regular exercise and provide resources to assist athletes to train properly”.

He said apart from the cash price, the winner and runner-up have the chance to participate in the next Bamako Marathon.

Marc Dzradosi of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) said it was a privilege to partner the Runathon Foundation in developing and facilitating long distance running in the country.

The Runathon 50km ultra-marathon race is a novelty in West Africa and the third ultra-marathon on the continent.
